During the exam, the Pt was so intent on knowing what the sex of the baby was throughout the exam. When the gender was revealed, Dawn would still refer to the baby as "the fetus" or "the baby", not "her" or "she". I specifically asked Dawn why she did that. She replied by saying that it is easier to move on from having miscarried a fetus as opposed to losing your baby girl. While they are just words, they carry a different sentimental significance.

After the exam, Dawn and I spoke about what was next for the patient. She informed me that its just a waiting game at this point. I inquired as to why we could not just keep adding fluid throughout the pregnancy to carry her to a viable gestation. Anytime we do an invasive procedure like an amnioinfusion, we put mom and the baby at risk for an infection. It would also be unrealistic to have the mother bedridden for that many months.

Prior to this exam, I spoke with the sonographer Dawn in great length in regards to this exam. She infomed me that she wasn't sure if we would be doing a procedure because there was not a good outcome for the Pt regardless due to how far along the fetus was. She also stated that if we did do the amnioinfusion, it would be done only for confirmation as to the cause of the oligohydramnios.
